Four Year Anniversary

Russell and I celebrated our 4-year wedding anniversary yesterday! Every year we go to a body of water (ocean, lake, or bay), re-read our vows to each other and add something new. I completely forgot to do my amendment this year (doh!) but after thinking about it last night and today, I want to add that I want to be a better communicator. I tend to have K Rage (Korean rage, a real thing according to the internet) and get emotional in the heat of the moment. With my vow renewal, I’m going to try to be more thoughtful in the way that I communicate with Russell, even when I’m angry.

We try to stick with traditional anniversary gifts every year.

Anniversary Traditional Modern
1st Paper Clocks
2nd Cotton China
3rd Leather Crystal/Glass
4th Fruit/Flowers Appliances
5th Wood Silverware
6th Candy/Iron Wood
7th Wool/Copper Desk Sets
8th Pottery/Bronze Linens/Lace
9th Willow/Pottery Leather
10th Tin/Aluminum Diamond Jewelry
11th Steel Fashion Jewelry
12th Silk/Linen Pearls
13th Lace Textile Furs
14th Animals* Gold Jewelry
15th Crystal Watches
20th China Platinum
25th Silver Silver
30th Pearl Diamond
35th Coral Jade
40th Ruby Ruby
45th Sapphire Sapphire
50th Gold Gold
60th Diamond Diamond

For this year’s fruit and flower tradition, we decided we’d gift ourselves with a budget to make an air plant wall on our patio. And Russell surprised me with some Korean pears last night as well.

It was fitting for our four-year anniversary dinner to be at Haven in Jack London Square, full of plant decor and a fruit-forward meal.
