Summer Reads 2014

I haven’t written any What Russell Wore What I Read posts in a while, mostly because in the summer Russell wears tank tops, shorts, and flip flops. Now that school’s back in session and the weather should be cooling down, I’ll ramp back up on reporting Russell’s sartorial choices. But I wanted to share some of my Summer Reads, so here’s just a What I Read post.

Abundance Of

An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. If you’ve read/watched The Fault in Our Stars and are craving more of John Green’s brilliantly witty voice, this one should satisfy.

Night Circus

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. This one’s been on my to-read list for a few years and I finally got to it. A fantastical, magical tale that does not disappoint. I gobbled it up on a few recent flights.

Storied Life

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin. My book club at work read this together. It’s very much a book about books and book lovers. I found it charming – not life changing- but entertaining and mostly cleverly written.

Tell the Wolves

Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt. Seriously well-written literature that packs a lot of emotional punch. A friend recommended this book to me a few years ago saying she loved it and that it was still haunting her. I finally read it when I had some brutal hours to kill while getting my hair done.

Watership Down

Watership Down by Richard Adams. My favorite read of the summer and of all time. This is story-telling at its best.

Happy End of Summer!

  1. So glad you loved The Night Circus – one of my favorite books! I haven’t read Watership Down since seventh grade. I loved it then and am so glad to hear that I just might love it now. I always get good tips from your “What I Read” posts :). Happy back-to-school for Russell! Our students arrive today!
