Searching for the Best Yoga Studio in the Bay Area Part III

Since moving back to the Bay Area almost a year ago, I’ve been on the hunt for a yoga studio to call home. I’m still searching but I wanted to share my journey so far. It’s a bit long-winded (7 studios in 4 cities!) so I’ll be breaking it into parts over the next few weeks.

My search for the next introductory deal led me to Core Power Yoga which offers a free week of unlimited classes for new students. They have multiple locations in the Bay Area, LA, Santa Barbara, and Orange County. I went to the one in Berkeley and took a heated power yoga class with weights for an hour and fifteen minutes. It was like a combination of bikram yoga and boot camp, aka torture. My whole body was on fire for a good week afterwards; I’ve never been so sore from a yoga class. I have no doubt I’d be in tip top shape if I kept going to this studio. However, it’s a little too out of the way for me, off the very heavily congested 80 freeway. I also had a mediocre class experience with a different instructor. Lastly it’s a little too corporate, a little too lacking in the more spiritual and restorative aspects of yoga that I like.

And so the search goes on.

To be continued…
