Friday Links: the NBA (not the basketball one), Better Book Titles, and more

by Erynn

Hi there. Big week in book world this week!

First, the National Book Award finalists were announced. This is like the Oscars of publishing, complete with a fancy awards party.  Congrats to all the finalists, especially Harper authors Louise ErdrichBen Fountain, and Patricia McCormick!

And the Nobel Peace Prize for Literature was awarded to Mo Yan. Cheers to well-deserved recognition to many great authors this week.

Here’s a wrap-up of other book links from around the web:

Ray Bradbury’s thoughts on books, also the last piece he wrote before he passed away.

“Think of everything you have ever read, everything you have ever learned from holding a book in your hands and how that knowledge shaped you and made you who you are today… I asked big questions because of books. I dreamed because of books. I started to write because of books.”

– Ray Bradbury

Lol, this site is funny (but not if you’re easily offended): Better Book Titles

Fascinating, Junot Diaz likes to read perched on his bathtub in his bathroom. I like to read curled up on my papasan chair. How about you?

I just subscribed to, which advertises itself as a place where you can browse for ebooks in a clean, distraction-free interface. They also have interesting posts like 50 most inspiring quotes about books and a $13 e-reader that caught my eye. Looking forward to learning more about what this site is like.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading and happy weekend!
