Out of Office

by Erynn

I’m off to my European vacation so I won’t be posting again until September 4th.

                                                                                              {Cinque Terre}

I’m headed to Florence, Cinque Terre, Milan, and Paris for a belated honeymoon and a friend’s wedding.

To get inspired for this trip I read BEAUTIFUL RUINS by Jess Walter. It’s a gorgeous read, set on a small Italian island close to Cinque Terre.  I highly recommend it if you’re pining for a little escape too. Just looking at the cover makes me happy.

I’ve fallen into this delicious habit of reading books based in places I’m about vacation in. I feel like books help me get to know a place on a more emotional and intimate level than travel guide books. Anybody else feel me on this?

Cool places to buy a copy of BEAUTIFUL RUINS:

Book People of Moscow in Moscow, ID

I Love Books in Delmar, NY

Upstart Crow Bookstore & Coffeehouse in San Diego, CA

The Bookshelf & Gallery in Thomasville, GA

Also, if you’ve made it all the way to the bottom of this post, you’ve made it to the give-away! For a chance to win a copy of LAUREN CONRAD STYLE, which I wrote about here, leave me a comment below. I’ll pick a winner when I get back on Wednesday, September 5th. Bonne chance!

Au revoir, ciao, a bientot!

  1. I TOTALLY feel you on that! In fact, my shortlist of places I need to go are based almost entirely on scenes I fell in love with in fiction books. And one of my best travel experiences was reading “The In-Between World of Vikram Lall” while in Kenya. The story/setting thing gives you such depth in your ability to connect with a new place.
