Hello blog world! It’s good to be back after a whirlwind trip back to California to visit friends and family. The husband and I covered a lot of ground from Los Angeles/Orange County, to central California Fresno, and then the Bay Area.
We visited a cute bookstore on Balboa Island, Newport Beach called Martha’s Bookstore, where we were greeted with, “Would you like some tea or a glass of chardonnay?” I was so taken aback by this friendliness that I had to ask her to repeat the question.
In the Bay Area we walked around our old neighborhood, Rockridge, Oakland and visited one of my favorite places, Pegasus Books. This sign slayed me. What a great shelf! And am I the last person to read 50 Shades of Grey??

And Nora Ephron on reading, via Brain Pickings:
“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it’s a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it’s a way of making contact with someone else’s imagination after a day that’s all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.”
For this week’s give-away, in honor of returning to the great city of New York, I’m giving away a very New York book.
