Quote of the Day: Charlotte’s Web

CHARLOTTE’S WEB, first published in 1952, is a story about a pig named Wilbur and his friendship with a spider named Charlotte. It’s a quintessential classic and it really was one of the very first books I fell in love with.  So in starting a blog about books,  it seems only right to start with one of the best.  


These illustrations bring back fond memories.


 2012 marked the sixtieth anniversary of Charlotte’s Web. In a special edition, Newbery Medal winner Kate DiCamillo wrote this poignant foreword to E. B. White’s beloved book.

“Every word of Charlotte’s Web bears the full weight of White’s love for the people, seasons, animals, and arachnids of this world. And every word of the book shows us how we can bear the triumphs and despairs, the wonders and the heartbreaks, the small and large glories and tragedies of being here.
