“Please don’t go. We’ll eat you up. We love you so.”
― Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are
I read this book when I was really young. I always considered it a classic, but I didn’t really remember what it was about until the movie came out a few years ago. I found the movie a little too bizarre, but I’m glad it brought me back to the book where there are lots of things to love. The illustrations are wildly creative. And Max’s imagination is admirable and at times very tender.
If you’re like me and you don’t remember the book, check out Christopher Walker’s very detailed and funny reading.
And if you haven’t seen this yet, you really owe it to yourself to watch Maurice Sendak’s interview on the Colbert report. The video clips are described as “Maurice Sendak considers the state of children’s literature and gets high on markers.” Hilarity ensues.
R.I.P. Maurice Sendak
